The Wedding Video I Didn't Know Existed

A couple of weeks ago, I had a completely unexpected surprise.

I was working on a client's VHS digitization project and had all of my equipment set up and running. Since everything was already out, I decided to grab a tape from a box of family memories that had been sitting in my husband's collection for years. I figured I might as well digitize one more tape while I had the chance.

Imagine my surprise when I pressed play.

It was my wedding video.

Now, we've been married for several decades—many decades—and I honestly do not remember having a videographer at our wedding. I don't remember anyone recording the reception. As far as I knew, our wedding memories existed only in photographs.

But there it was.

As the tape played, I found myself transported back more than 30 years. There were my grandparents, who have long since passed away. There were my husband's grandparents. There were aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends—so young, so full of life. And there we were, too, looking impossibly young and having the time of our lives.

It was such a gift.
